Our Philanthropy

One of the most important aspects of being a member of Alpha Phi is having the opportunity to give back to the community. As a chapter, we place a strong emphasis on philanthropy & service, as well as the importance of women helping women. Here at Alpha Phi, we take pride in showing our love for our philanthropy.

Whether it is hosting our own philanthropy events such as our Mac N' Phis and King of Hearts or volunteering with our local American Red Cross, we always strive our hardest to give back to the community, as well as support a variety of important causes.

The Upsilon Chapter has a strong passion for donating time to our local community. We have relationships with multiple local organizations and dedicate our time and service to them throughout the year. Our local philanthropy is the Topeka, KS branch of the American Heart Association. Our chapter completed a total of nearly 1,500 hours of community service during the 2021-2022 school year.

In addition to our Philanthropy, Alpha Phi is also connected by a common set of ideals. Offering a bond of sisterhood, a spirit of generosity, high expectations for character and a drive for innovation these characteristics define what it truly means to be a member of Alpha Phi.

A new tradition in honor of  Francis E. Willard Day of Service that every Alpha Phi chapter participates in is our Princess for a Day. We held an event with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Topeka where we brought in young women to hang out with us for a day. This event was aimed at giving the girls who are on the waiting list for a big sister a chance to have an entire sorority as big sisters for a day. The theme was Princess for a Day and the girls were able to get manicures, get their make-up done, decorate picture frames and decorate and enjoy cupcakes. Our sisters here at Alpha Phi really enjoyed spending time with these amazing girls and hope they had just as much fun as we did!

Princess for a Day

This is our week-long philanthropy campus event, that pushes our women to spread awareness about Women's Heart Health. This week happens once a year in February. This past year, we kicked off the week with a yoga night at the Washburn University Rec Center encouraging everyone to move their Phi't and get their heart rates up! For our second event, we played "grocery bingo" in the Union where we gave out lots of fun prizes and gift cards to the winners! Our third event of the week is awareness night at our home for some yummy Mac N' Phis. This year (due to safety concerns) we did to-go style where you could just order your mac and cheese from your car and pick it up at our door! For our last event, we turn up the heat with our men's beauty pageant, called King of Hearts. This is held on our campus in our ballroom. We had some wonderful contestants and can't wait for more next year!
